Collecting Goshuin

(Red Ink Stamps)

●A Goshuin Fee : ¥300

The “Goshuin (red ink stamp)” received at shrines and temples is a “record of the connection with Shinto and Buddhist deities” that is given as proof of visiting the shrine or temple. It depends on the individual shrine and temple, but a Goshuin stamp usually consists of a seal and the name of the shrine or temple, or the name of Buddhist images written in black ink. At Todaiji Temple, a Goshuin stamp can be obtained at each of the following halls. (See list below) A Goshuin stamp is usually recorded in a specific Goshuin notebook, and these notebooks can be purchased at Todaiji Temple.
